I see the farming activities being run with excellence and to high standards, with best practices adopted within each function of the farm. I want the farming practices to be innovative and creative. And I want them to be in line with biblical principles. This is the essence of Faithful Farming, the title of this website. It is about being faithful to the land and faithful to God, through careful selection of appropriate best practices.
The demonstration of best practice is also an act of worship. It is a conscious effort to honour God the creator. I see a farm intelligently designed, with a strategic plan and exciting and new technologies being integrated throughout. Some of the ideas include using permaculture's five-zone design system, using renewable energy, rainwater harvesting, intercropping, vertical farming, aquaponics, and self-harvesting beehives.
The word ‘modelling’ emphasises that the farm will be a place of sharing the best practices with others. The farm may well be a place where people come to see how it ‘could be done’. I envision training facilities and possibly interns working on the land. I would love to see school groups come and participate in constructive activities away from the noise of urban centres. Perhaps the land will be used by people with disabilities, the unemployed or homeless, as a means of hope, education, connection, healing, and possibly employment.
The farm will be an open and welcoming space, a place of learning and of inspiration, where visitors can come and see best practices clearly demonstrated. Like this website, it will be a place of collaboration, of sharing, and of learning together.
